SpaceX launched another 52 broadband Starlink satellites early Wednesday morning, May 31, and landed the returning rocket on a ship at sea. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 52 Starlink spacecraft took off from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, at 02:02 ET (06:02 GMT; 23:02 California time on May 30).

Falcon 9’s first stage returned to Earth about 8 minutes and 45 seconds after launch on Wednesday as scheduled. It has made a vertical landing on SpaceX’s Of course I Still Love You unmanned spacecraft, which is resting in the Pacific Ocean. According to SpaceX’s mission statement, this was the 14th launch and landing of this particular launch vehicle. Its previous 13 flights have included SpaceX’s Crew-1 and Crew-2, astronaut missions to the International Space Station (ISS) for NASA.

Meanwhile, the Falcon 9 booster continued to carry 52 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit. The company deployed them all about 17.5 minutes after launch as scheduled. SpaceX confirmed on Twitter.

According to astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell, SpaceX has so far launched more than 4,500 Starlink satellites, of which more than 4,100 are active. But much more will rise in the coming weeks and months. The company already has permission to send 12,000 Starlink satellites into orbit and has applied for permission to launch 30,000 more.

Wednesday’s Starlink launch comes just hours after SpaceX’s Dragon capsule returned to Earth. This spacecraft, named Freedom, sent a special Ax-2 astronaut mission to the Axiom Space space station in Houston. Freedom left the ISS on Tuesday morning, May 30, and landed on the Florida coast 12 hours later, at 23:04 pm ET (May 31, 03:04 GMT).
