Intel Core Gen14 will be faster and support DDR5 at 6400 MHz

A few months ago, we started seeing rumors that Intel Core Gen14 would actually be a simple revision of the current generation, and that’s where the name Raptor Lake Refresh came from. The truth is that this information made sense, especially after confirming that Intel’s Meteor Lake processors they would only have the top configuration with 6 P cores (high performance based on Redwood Cove architecture) and 16 E cores (high efficiency based on Crestmont architecture).

This does not mean that Intel Meteor Lake has been canceled, this generation exists and will be released as Intel Core Gen14, but everything seems to indicate that It will only be available for laptops and there will be no desktop version..

This would leave an important gap that the chip giant will cover with the Raptor Lake Refresh if the latest information we see is true, and the truth is that it seems so, especially after ASRock’s last moveof which he spoke new Intel processors for socket LGA1700 with much higher consumption.

ADATA DDR5

Intel Raptor Lake Refresh will not introduce any change in terms of CPI, and we also do not expect news in the production process, which will continue to be Intel 7 (10 nm SuperFin of the last generation). The number of cores and threads will remain at current levels, which means that the high-end chip will have 8 P cores based on the Raptor Cove architecture and will also have 16 E cores based on the Gracemont architecture.

It will focus on the improvements that Intel Core Gen14 will bring to PCs significant increase in work frequencywhich will increase raw performance at the cost of higher consumption (this fits perfectly with what ASRock announced when announcing their new LGA1700 motherboards), as well as support for faster DDR5 memories, which we were already able to confirm at Computex 2023 thanks to ADATA introducing new DDR5 modules running at 6,400 MHz, which could pinpoint the minimum frequency that Raptor Lake Refresh will support by default.

I recall that Alder Lake-S supported DDR5 memory at 4800 MHz and that Raptor Lake-S jumped to 5600 MHz, so it would make sense to think that that 6,400 MHz will be the new frequency that Raptor Lake Refresh will support by default. As for the operating frequencies of these new processors, it is very likely that they will easily exceed 6 GHz, although as we said, this will mean a noticeable increase in consumption and generated heat.
