According to rumors published by 9to5Google, Pixel Watch 2 should improve battery lifecompared to the previous generation. The device is expected to last more than a day with the screen always on. By comparison, the Pixel Watch also promised 24 hours of battery life if the user didn’t keep the screen on all the time.
The main reason for changing the autonomy of Google smartwatches is the alleged change in the internal chipset of the device. According to rumors on the portal 9to5Google, which guarantees access to sources with knowledge on the subject, Big Tech replace Samsung’s Exynos 9110 with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5. This change should be paramount to extending the battery life of the Pixel Watch 2. Of course, the information is just a rumor at the moment, but a smartwatch with a 1-day battery life would be good even with more intensive use.
Pixel Watch 2 should bring Qualcomm’s SoC
Samsung and Google have been cooperating for several years, and the South Korean company is one of the main suppliers of components for Google, including the Tensor semiconductor chipset. If the rumors raised by 9to5Google are true, the company will explore new territory and replace the Exynos 9110 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chipset.
Although this is a rumor, the decision indicates a significant improvement in the device. After all, the Exynos 9110 has been around for over three years, and in terms of performance, it leaves a lot to be desired compared to later versions. Most of the specifications of the Pixel Watch 2 remain a mystery at this point, but device must have Fitbit Sense 2 health sensors (Google’s fitness-focused smartwatch). We just have to wait for confirmation whether Apple is really going to “relinquish” its friendship with Samsung and start a new partnership with Qualcomm.
