Almost everyone uses it every day, whether it’s for work, study, communication with friends and family, or for playing games and multimedia content. Losing it for just a few hours can cause us serious problemsespecially if our professional activity depends on it.

I remember a few years ago there were problems connecting to Wi-Fi networks They were quite common So much so that there was a time when we were used to having a user experience that could be greatly improved. Fortunately, with the passage of time, new standards have come and the hardware (routers, Wi-Fi repeaters and PLC devices with Wi-Fi repeaters) has also improved remarkably.

The situation has improved a lot, there is no debate about it, and what used to be almost the universal norm is now less and less common. However, it’s clear that we’re not quite done yetand that we still quite often suffer from various problems that prevent us from connecting to Wi-Fi in one way or another.

At MC, we are aware of the headaches that this can cause you, so we decided to prepare this article in which we will discuss with you the problems that most often prevent us from connecting to Wi-Fi and we will discuss possible solutions. 1.-Service outages: talk to your internet provider

If you can’t connect to Wi-Fi with any of the devices you have at home, it’s very likely that the problem is with your provider. It could suffer a fall and that service be temporarily unavailable. If this is the reason why you cannot connect to Wi-Fi, it is essential that you know as soon as possible because all your efforts will be in vain.

Don’t waste time and if you suspect that the error might come from your provider, rule it out first. In case they confirm that it’s their problem, be patient because you can just wait for them to fix it. Depending on what caused the incident it can take from a few minutes to a few hours.

2.-Wi-Fi configuration errors: check the router and device

In case the problem is not with your provider, the first thing you should do is check if everything is ok, Wi-Fi settings, and the device you can’t connect to. It’s very simple, just follow these steps:

  • Check if you have Wi-Fi enabled on your device because there is a possibility that you disabled it without realizing it.
  • Check your router settings to make sure everything is fine. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had someone tell me they can’t connect to Wi-Fi and then it turns out it’s because of a configuration change made by a family member, e.g. edit the password and make the SSID “invisible”.
  • Make sure that you are trying to connect to the correct Wi-Fi network. I have also encountered cases of people trying to connect to a network that was not theirs but had a similar name.
  • In homes or offices where there is a router used and configured by multiple peoplecheck if MAC address filtering has been activated which may have affected you.

3.-Unresolved conflicts: restart the router and device

Sometimes something as simple as a reboot can do a real miracle. This has an explanation that is simpler than it seems, that when we have the router activated for a long time, continuously and without any rest, we increase the probability of this happening. errors that lead to unresolved conflicts, and that these end up generating a connection error that we can’t resolve.

Many of these errors remain stuck in RAM router and possibly on the device as well. A simple restart of both is sufficient to resolve them, as this will completely empty the RAM memory and these errors will disappear. It is important to restart both as this method is the most effective as we ensure that the errors are gone on both devices. Otherwise, it could be solved for one, but by holding the other it could come back and “contaminate” the one who has recovered.

4.-Automatic troubleshooter

Windows 10 and Windows 11 come with a tool that allows us to do this automatically fix network problems. It is very easy to use, just go to the network icon on the taskbar, right click and select “troubleshoot”. We choose the adapter we want to diagnose and that’s it, let the tool work.

The troubleshooter has improved a lot over the years and as a result has become almost unusable a tool that really works, and that can really get us out of more than one volume. Don’t get me wrong, we may encounter cases where it doesn’t work, but it’s very easy and fast to use, so it’s worth a try, especially if we’re convinced the problem is on our end.

5.-Another possible solution when the problem is on our side

I wanted to leave this section as a little “mixed bag” because there are still things we can do At this point, to solve the problems that prevent us from connecting to the Internet and which are worth considering before taking extreme measures:

  • If you remembered the Wi-Fi connection on the device where it does not work, delete it, then perform a new search, select it and enter the password again.
  • The Wi-Fi connection may not work because you are too far from the router or because the router is starting to have range problems. Try to connect very close to the router.
  • If the device does not detect the Wi-Fi network, try entering the name and password manually.
  • Run an antivirus scan to rule out the problems stemming from a malware infection that may have affected your device.
