Elon Musk Is The Richest Person In The World Again (I Think)

The rivalry for wealth between the richest names in the world continues at full speed. until December 2022 Elon Musk, who was by far the leader for a long time, fell to second place on the list with Tesla stock, his comments on Twitter and his takeover of Twitter.

Today, however, the situation has changed – or appears to have changed. Elon Musk surpasses Bernard Arnault on Bloomberg’s daily list of billionaires ranked first again. According to data from Forbes, Musk is still in second place.

Here’s what the Bloomberg and Forbes billionaire lists look like (June 1 data):

Elon Musk

  • Bloomberg:
  1. Elon Musk – $192 billion
  2. Bernard Arnault – $187 billion
  3. Jeff Bezos – $144 billion
  4. Bill Gates – $125 billion
  5. Larry Ellison – $118 billion
  • Forbes:
  1. Bernard Arnault – $216.9 billion
  2. Elon Musk – $200.2 billion
  3. Jeff Bezos – $143.3 billion
  4. Larry Ellison – $132.2 billion
  5. Bill Gates – $114 billion

Why are there differences in the lists?

Besides the ranking in the Forbes and Bloomberg lists, the wealth information offered for the names also has a big difference. This difference is used by both organizations when calculating net worth. due to the difference in methodology arises.

Bloomberg uses markets, economics and Bloomberg news in its calculations. This is evident from the end-of-day prices of the New York stock market is updating.

Forbes, on the other hand, calculates the value of all known assets of billionaires every five minutes. It’s not just any scholarship. If a person owns a private company (such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Twitter), the value of that company is determined by the market index specific to the industry and region, which adds to wealth.

In fact, the work differs greatly in the calculation of private companies. Unlike Forbes, Bloomberg calculates the value of private companies based on factors such as price-to-earnings ratios, comparable transactions and EBITDA, and rates these companies based on the market movements of comparable companies.

However, there is no need to ‘shuffle’ these lists too much

The slightest movement in the stock markets can cause the super-rich in the above list to increase or decrease their wealth by billions of dollars. However, these stock movements are neither Elon Musk nor other super-rich. It does not affect their daily life. Because if Elon Musk owns a company, he will continue to own it even if the value falls, and that company will continue to do what it has been doing so far.
