TAURUS KEPD 350/150 is Storm Shadow’s European competitor. Production of these cruise missiles is located in Germany, at Taurus Systems GmbH, a joint venture between MBDA Deutschland (Germany) and Saab Bofors Dynamics AB (Sweden), Building-tech.org reports.

The TAURUS cruise missile is equipped with a MEPHISTO type warhead. Specially designed for effective penetration through concrete and heavy soil rocks. Thanks to the special shape of the BZ and its highly efficient cumulative charge, the main charge – about 56 kg of explosives – is delivered to the deep target. The total mass of the charged combat unit in the case is 480 kg. The rocket is equipped with the Williams International P8300-15 turbojet engine.

The main advantage of TAURUS is modern, highly efficient navigation and destination search. This long-range cruise missile uses several systems at once: IBN (image-based), INS (inertial), TRN (terrain dependent) and MIL-GPS (global positioning system).

Thanks to the combination of guidance subsystems, the missile flies long distances without the need for GPS, and high guidance accuracy is achieved in the final part of the flight, thanks to the use of a periodically adjusted autonomous inertial navigation system. flight based on data from radar and optical subsystem. As it approaches, the missile activates an infrared homing gun.

The TAURUS navigation system is almost identical to the Storm Shadow navigation system: in addition to the global military positioning system MIL-GPS, there is a connection to the TERCOM system (terrain contour analysis) and other specialized terrain analysis systems that allow the missile. to fly undetected by air defense vehicles. Another feature of TAURUS is the working algorithm of the warhead detonation system. In addition to the standard “pierce-detonation” program, simultaneous detonation of the cumulative and high-explosive parts of the charge can be configured for an air detonation.
