Leading AI executives, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, met with experts and professors to raise the “risk of extinction from AI” and urged politicians to equate AI with the risks of epidemics and nuclear war.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.
“Reducing the risk of extinction through AI must become a global priority, alongside other societal risks such as epidemics and nuclear war,” said more than 350 signatories in a letter published by the nonprofit Center for Artificial Intelligence Security (CAIS).
In addition to Altman, among them were the presidents of DeepMind and Anthropic, and the presidents of Microsoft and Google. Among them were Geoffrey Hinton and Joshua Bengio, two of the three so-called “Fathers of Artificial Intelligence” who received the 2018 Turing Award for their work in deep learning, and professors from institutions ranging from Harvard to Tsinghua University in China.
The letter’s presentation coincided with the US-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting in Sweden, where policymakers are expected to discuss AI regulation.
As reported by Ukrinform, the company Nvidia said it is building Israel’s most powerful supercomputer with artificial intelligence (AI) to meet the growing demand for applications using such cutting-edge technologies.
