The largest aircraft ever built has made its fifth test flight over the Mojave Desert. This was reported by the New Atlas portal.
Private aviation company Stratolaunch conducted a test on the carrier on Wednesday and is currently analyzing data obtained during the test flight, according to a press release from the company.
Taking its name from a giant bird from Middle Eastern mythology, Roc flew 4 hours and 58 minutes in total, reaching an altitude of 6858 meters. During this flight, the team that created the aircraft tested a new pylon on the mid wing of the aircraft, designed to levitate hypersonic devices. The 4.3-metre-long pylon is expected to carry the company’s multiple hypersonic test aircraft, known as the Talon-A.
The aircraft weighs about 250 tons and has a wingspan of 117 meters. The machine is equipped with six jet engines, 26 wheels and can carry up to 125 tons of fuel.
