Some of the new features of Android 14 are included in the system APIs. Meanwhile, these APIs will be finalized in the next Android 14 beta coming later this month. A new battery status API provides: battery information we didn’t have until nowand there is already an app to read it.

Knowing battery charge cycles depends entirely on whether the manufacturer decides to integrate the battery into the system on their own (and they usually don’t). That could change in Android 14 with a new battery management API. An application is already taking advantage of this so we can see the following data: battery health and charge cycles.

Charge cycles are finally visible on Android (14)

On Android if you want measuring charge cycles You usually have to do this manually; apps basically keep track of you manually and only from the moment you install them, with a few exceptions. It is possible that Android 14 will notify us of the data.

BatteryManager API can now specify data in Android 14 state of charge and charge cycles. They are not displayed in the operating system itself for now – this may change between now and the final version – but a third-party application can access and view the data.

The app already exists and is open source Batt and you can download it for free from GitHub. The application is extremely simple and basically shows us its number. charge cycles and charge status. If the app is allowed android.permission.BATTERY_STATSSomething that can be done with the help of Shizuku, then we will have more data.

With this permission, it does not require root, its health status, first usage date, and date of manufacture of the battery. While Android 14 is still under construction, we can’t be 100% sure that this API will remain open and accessible for any application in the final version, although we hope so. Knowing battery cycles will help us understand when it’s time to replace or better assess the condition of a second-hand cell phone.
