The next replenishment is expected in the “cemetery” of Google services. The search giant announced the closure of the popular YouTube Go program, aimed at owners of low-cost smartphones and residents of countries with limited access to the Internet.

Like other programs in the Go-series, the lightweight YouTube client, introduced six years ago, has reduced requirements for system resources and can significantly save Internet traffic. Its main features are the ability to download videos to your device for offline viewing and display the size of the video depending on the selected quality.

According to Google’s official statement, YouTube Go is simply no longer needed. Over the past years, the company has optimized the main application so that it works perfectly even on budget devices and with a slow Internet connection. In addition, work is underway on new features that will help reduce mobile data costs, which has been critical for many YouTube Go users.

It is worth noting that the application has over 500 million downloads on Google Play – on par with the popular game PUBG Mobile. YouTube Go will stop working in August this year.
