Microsoft Teams’ social media-like communities now have a place in the Windows app too. The Designer integration, on the other hand, adds a touch of generative AI.

Microsoft introduced Communities for the Teams mobile app in December. In a blog, the software giant announces the expansion of Communities to the meetings platform’s free Windows app, only Windows 11 for now. However, Windows 10 users needn’t fear being left out, including the macOS app and the web version of teams could join soon.

With the addition of communities, Teams evolves from an online video conferencing platform to a social media channel like Facebook, Discord, or Reddit. This feature allows organizations to set up groups for a specific purpose.

The addition of new camera functions shows that Microsoft attaches great importance to communities. In iOS, Microsoft is testing a feature for adding users to a community by scanning their email address into a document with your smartphone’s camera. Microsoft also wants to add polls to communities.

Microsoft has more good news for Windows app users. The designer app will also be part of communities. Microsoft’s answer to Canva can generate images based on text input. Designer is available as a preview and can be used, for example, to design a banner for your group.
