An irresistible critical vulnerability has been discovered in Gigabyte motherboards. This was reported by the experts of the Eclypsium agency.
The firm’s experts found a backdoor in Gigabyte motherboards, a built-in flaw that allows unauthorized access to data. According to experts, the reason for the appearance of the backdoor lies in the dangerous implementation of the firmware update function, since attackers can launch malware without the knowledge of users.
The issue affects 270 Gigabyte models – the agency noted that the vulnerability could threaten the security of millions of consumers. According to Eclypsium engineer John Loukaides, users can find out their motherboard model by opening the Start menu and going to System Information.
Eclypsium experts noted that they informed Gigabyte about the backdoor and offered help to eliminate the vulnerability. Representatives of the motherboard manufacturer have confirmed that they have fixed the issue. “If you don’t trust your motherboard’s software, you’re building your house on sand”– Rich Smith, a representative of the Crash Override security agency, commented on the issue.
