Over the years, there is always some part of our PC that for one reason or another we notice starts to lag behind the others. Don’t worry, it’s normal, time doesn’t pass in vain, and no matter how much we balance the components, there will always be components that end up blaming age sooner.
In my case, the fastest “obsolete” component was the graphics card that built my first PC, modest SiS with 1 MB of memory. It was a bit unlucky because my parents bought this kit right when the 3D craze was starting and when graphics accelerators were not yet commonplace but becoming more and more important.
I finally finished updating this component and I installed an S3 Virge 3D with 2MB of memory, which I expanded to 4MB shortly after. It wasn’t a panacea, but my budget didn’t allow for more, and in the end it made me very happy, actually thanks to it I was able to play titles like Resident Evil 1 and 2, as well as others like Final Fantasy VII.
Generally speaking, of all the computers I’ve had, The graphics card was the component I would like to upgrade the most before the rest, even though they were there exception Which I think is worth mentioning. GeForce 9600 GTbecause in the computer that had the graphics card installed, I felt the need to upgrade the processor first, an Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 with two cores and two threads.
Said graphics card offered me a very long life, although I’m clear on that would be surpassed by the GeForce GTX 970 if I didn’t find a refurbished GeForce GTX 980 Ti for less than 300 euros. I traded it for her without hesitation and the truth is, it was one of the best purchases I’ve made so far.
Focusing on the present, the truth is that there is only one component that I would like to change, and that is the Ryzen 7 5800X. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very powerful processor, but I’m gaming at 1440p and on multiple occasions, especially with DLSS 2 turned on, I’ve noticed that my GeForce RTX 3090 Ti can do a bit more with the more powerful CPU. If I updated it would be very clear, I would go for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
Now it’s your turn read in the comments.
