Microsoft Edge is starting to deploy Workspaces, its commitment to collaborative productivity

Usually once a month we say that there are not two without three and it usually refers to the launch of the most prominent derivatives of Chromium, starting with Chrome and continuing with Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi… As you can see, there are not three, but some more, although it depends opportunities whether there is something to tell or not.

As far as we’re concerned, everything is derived from Chromium 114, a new version of the base web browser that has already loaded Chrome 114 and Brave 1.52… and now it’s time Microsoft 114very limited edition, for what we are used to Microsoft’s web browser.

In fact, this is the shortest version in months, which hardly contains any basic news from Chromium, including various fixes and optimizations, while applying some of the usual Microsoft Edge policy revisions. In general, nothing that would be of interest to the average user, because everything is played under the hood.

With one exception, of course: the start of deployment Work spaces or workspacesthe new browser feature that Microsoft is betting heavily on, and as the concept is known, is ambitious like no other, given that it’s a collaborative feature, going above and beyond what the competition has done before.

You most likely already know or can imagine what Microsoft Edge Workspaces consist of, because we talked about them a few weeks ago, and more importantly, it is, as we say, a feature that is already present in other web browsers: Opera it has for a long time, although it has evolved over time; and Vivaldi has it, who recently premiered it.

Let’s get to the point, the workspaces are basically groups of cards, it’s like being able to save browser windows with their tabs — and stacks of tabs — so you can access them when you need to, helping to reduce clutter or improve organization, both. It may sound trivial when exposed like this, but it’s not that simple.

Microsoft explains it as “a way for users to organize their browsing tasks into dedicated windows,” allowing “a set of browser tabs to be shared so workgroups can see the same sites and latest files in one place.” and stay on the same page. Each Edge workspace contains its own set of tabs and favoritesanything created and selected by the user and his collaborators; […] they are automatically saved and updated.”

In other words, the usual, but a priori better, and that is, to the possibility of sharing Workspaces with other users, the possibility of synchronization between devices is added, which the rest of the alternatives lack. Why is quickly understood: Workspaces is not just a browser feature, but a new service from Microsoft which will require identification in the browser with a Microsoft account and the use of a specific page.

So Edge Workspaces, Microsoft Edge workspaces, or workspaces, depending on how you end up translating it, are currently in open beta, accessible through this address, but only from Microsoft Edge . However, just try to smell it, because professional users of the browser already receive the novelty without restrictions. The rest will have to wait a while, it is not known how long, but it should not be long.

What about this can be considered… is Microsoft copying but also improving on what other browsers are doing? Because it looks like it.
