Journal is the company’s next step in the health and wellness segment, joining other iOS apps like Fitness, Sleep, and Breathe that help users track and manage various aspects of their daily lives.
The Journal will be released on iOS 17, which we expect in September. new app for iPhone will use on-device machine learning to create personalized offers to users in their digital diaries, pulling information from people, photos, music, workouts, location data and more.
For example, Journal can prompt users to write about their most recent trip by tagging a new photo album that includes photos taken at a new location, a detailed description of the location, and music users are currently listening to. Clicking on this offer automatically creates a new Journal entry. Once saved, important entries can be tagged to make them easier to find and review later.
The magazine will be available on iOS 17 / Photo by Apple
iPhone users can control what device data is used to generate recommendations and when prompt notifications are typed. Apple also plans to offer developers an API that will allow them to use these personalized tips in their own apps.
Journal will compete with third-party journaling apps like Day One, which was first made available for Mac and iOS in 2012 and expanded to Android in 2018.
