Apple iPadOS 17 officially announced, the next major update to the iPad operating system, during WWDC 2023 last Monday (5). new software bring significant improvements on features such as Stage Manager, as well as lock screen customization and interactive home screen widgets.

Stage Manager, a feature introduced last year with iPadOS 16, allows iPad users to have multiple app windows open at the same time and connect the iPad to an external display as if it were a computer. With iPadOS 17, Apple promises to further expand Stage Manager’s capabilities, including greater flexibility in resizing and repositioning windows.

Lock screen settings that were added on iPhone with iOS 16 will now be available on iPad with iPadOS 17. Users will be able to create multiple lock screens with different wallpapers, widgets, and font styles. In addition, the lock screen will now support real-time activity widgets such as food orders, travel plans, or game scores.

App Saúde and Buscar attract special attention

For years, the Health app has been exclusive to the iPhone. With iPadOS 17, iPad users will be able to check their health data without a phone. The app has been redesigned to take advantage of the iPad’s larger screen and will display all the health data already stored on iPhone via iCloud in a more complete way.

Some of the new features added in iOS 17 will also be coming to iPadOS 17, such as the new Journal app and updates to the Search app. The iPad will also benefit from Find My improvements thanks to iOS 17.

Apple is also focusing on PDFs through the Notes app. With the help of machine learning models, the Notes app will be able to identify fields in the PDF to help with annotations with the Apple Pencil. iPadOS 17 brings new ways to organize, annotate, and collaborate in real-time on PDFs in the Notes app.

The first developer beta of iPadOS 17 will be released this week. Apple says a public beta will be available this summer, with an official launch expected in the fall. More information about the update can be found on the Apple Developer website.
