NGO Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest platform for the protection of the rights of the LGBTQ+ collective in the US, said on Tuesday “national emergency” in the country due to the deterioration in recent years of the situation with the rights of lesbians, gays, transgenders, bisexuals and queers.

“During this legislative session there were over 525 government bills attacking the LGTBIQ+ community, and over 220 targeted at the trans community. At the time of publication more than 70 of them became law”says a detailed report signed by its president, Kelly Robinson.

The report focuses on several states, such as Texas, Tennessee and Florida, where the majority are Republicans. It is forbidden to discuss sexual orientation in elementary schools. and pushed through laws restricting abortion or denial of medical and psychological assistance to LGBT+ peopleamong other issues.

In particular, the NGO emphasized that this situation has caused “tidal wave” of transphobia and homophobia threatening the lives of thousands of people due to increased depression and stress among its members, as well as an increase in attacks against gay, lesbian, queer and transgender people.

The NGO also condemned that many of the adopted laws “copy and paste” the language of conservative organizations such as the Heritage Foundation, the Family Policy Alliance or the Freedom Defense Alliance, which oppose equality and They use underage transgender people to incite hatred.
