The PNC director did not go into details and did not name the people he was talking about.

Between 2012 and 2014 Mara Salvatrucha (MS13), Barrio 18 and other minority gangs they maintained a truce to reduce the number of murders supported by the government of former President Mauricio Funes (2009-2014).

A criminal court in El Salvador sentenced former President Funes (2009-2014) to 14 years in prison, which currently residing in Nicaragua for crimes committed under said truce.

The prosecutor’s office explained that Funes received 8 years on charges of illegal formations and 6 years for violation of official duties.

After testifying before prosecutors in 2016, Funes denied that his government provided benefits to gang leaders. incarceration in exchange for a decrease in the number of murders.

However, in the trial against the so-called truce operators, retired General Munguia Payes testified as a witness and changed the official story while pointing out that the truce was a policy of “appeasement”.
