Adobe Photoshop is one of the most traditional image editing tools, whether it’s Photoshop itself or the Lightroom version. Now Adobe is making its platforms more competitive by adding AI-assisted image noise reduction, Adobe Denoise, implemented in Lightroom Classic v12.3, Lightroom CC v6.3, and Photoshop’s Camera Raw v15.3. The Denoise tool can add pixels to old photos and enhance images with new details.

To use the resource in the Adobe toolbox, just select the image on which you want to remove noise (Noise Reduction). After that, just select the Denoise option and adjust the sharpening controls. If you don’t want to fiddle around with the settings, just right-click and select the Enhance option and the tool will do the job for you. Restoring old photos is the main task of Adobe Photoshop, and with the help of Denoise, any custom image can be given a new level of quality. In addition, the company has focused on implementing AI to improve the performance of its resources.

Below you can see the result of applying the resource, in the images taken by the DPreview portal, footage edited by Mike Tomkins in my tests with Adobe Denoise. Tomkins photographed the dog with a Panasonic GH5 II camera and got interesting results using this tool in image processing.

Adobe noise reduction test

According to the portal, the tests were carried out with the default setting of 50% noise reduction. That is, if the result of the process is not ideal, the user can change the settings as needed. For the dog images, Tomkins used a Panasonic Lumix GH5, and close-ups of the eyes were taken at ISO 8000. In both cases, you can see how Denoise has improved image quality by reducing noise and providing more detail and brightness..

In the full-length image (below), you can also see a nice improvement in the overall lighting of the photo. The change was made based on the JPEG format extracted directly from the camera, without any prior changes.

Adobe Denoise takes time to process images

The only counter-argument to be considered is the significant time required to process the image. According to the portal, it took 2 hours to process a 407MB batch of 10 images on an intermediate Dell XPS-15 9570 laptop.

So to use Denoise effectively, you need a machine with good processing power, or plenty of extra time to make coffee and do other tasks during image processing. In any case, the resource is interesting and a very long-awaited novelty for users of Adobe resources.
