A Russia-based cybercrime group has delivered an ultimatum to victims of a hacking attack that has hit organizations around the world.

As reported by Ukrinform, the BBC reported it.

The Clop group has issued a warning to organizations affected by the MOVEit hack, asking them to send an email by June 14, otherwise the stolen data will be released.

More than 100,000 employees at the BBC, British Airways and Boots have been told their salary information may have been compromised by hackers. Employers are asked not to pay if hackers demand a ransom.

Data has been confirmed to have been stolen from eight UK companies that use the MOVEit system and provide payroll services. The stolen data included home addresses, National Insurance numbers and in some cases bank details. Companies whose data was stolen include the BBC, British Airways, Aer Lingus and Boots.

Cybersecurity experts have long followed the activities of the Clop group, which is believed to be based in Russia as it operates predominantly in Russian-language forums.

Moscow has long been accused of being a safe haven for ransomware gangs.

In 2021, hackers allegedly belonging to the Clop group were detained in Ukraine as part of a joint operation by law enforcement agencies from Ukraine, the USA and South Korea.
