During the demonstration, Realtek deliberately challenged it by placing a source of interference very close to the Wi-Fi 7 module. However, the module, known as RTL8922AE, exceeded expectations, offering a data transfer rate of around 2Gbps despite the interference.
What is known about the development
The RTL8922AE module will be available in two variants: a soldered component in 1620 format and a standard M.2 2230. Thanks to the use of Multi-Link Operation (MLO) mode in the channeled 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, the module with a width of up to 160 MHz, an impressive up to 2,880 Mbps achieves a data transfer rate. It also supports Bluetooth 5.4, increasing its versatility for various wireless applications. Realtek has not yet announced the price or release date of this long-awaited module.
Realtek did not content with the introduction of the Wi-Fi 7 module, it also presented a roadmap of Wi-Fi 7 routers with 2.5G wired connection support. These routers have up to eight antennas, four of which are dedicated to Wi-Fi 6 coverage.

The future looks promising for consumers, as Realtek plans to launch three new router models in the third quarter of 2024:
All of them are equipped with 2 and 5 GHz band support. Subsequently, BE6500 and BE9400 models will enter the market in the 4th quarter and these models will have the advantage of supporting the 6 GHz band.
Wi-Fi 7
It represents the next generation of wireless standards that will replace its predecessor, Wi-Fi 6E, later this year. This innovation includes reducing delays and increasing channel utilization efficiency due to increased channel width. With faster speeds, lower latency and better overall performance, Wi-Fi 7 has the potential to revolutionize the way we connect and interact in an increasingly connected world.
