New operating system version Android TV, Android TV 14 Beta 1, has just been released and promises to provide users with many new features. One of the most interesting is the support for phone calls, allowing people to receive phone calls right on their TV screens.

The discovery was made by Mishaal Rahman, who noticed the presence of incoming call notifications in the operating system. Additionally, Android TV 14 allows users to receive these calls directly from supported apps on their TVs. It is worth noting that call notifications will only be displayed when the user is logged into their personal profile.

However, Android TV 14 won’t be the only OS to support big screen calls. Apple recently announced its plans to bring FaceTime to tvOS 17 and Apple TV 4K.

In addition to calling support, Android TV 14 Beta 1 also brings other feature updates. Noteworthy are HDR controls, power management features, and improvements to audio device management.

Image quality, power mode and more

According to Rahman, the operating system has an image quality setting that allows users to force a specific HDR or SDR format. It also includes a power mode switch with “low, moderate, high, and unlimited” options that progressively limit network resources. Finally, Android TV 14’s toolbar appears to have an option to display available headphones, including Bluetooth audio devices, which should make the connection process easier.

With all these improvements, Android TV 14 promises to provide an even more complete and versatile experience for Android TV users. The ability to receive calls directly on the TV screen and all the other functional upgrades are sure to keep users satisfied and want to get the most out of their large screens.
