Biometric authentication will soon be part of the password manager in Google Chrome for desktop.
Users of the password manager in Google Chrome for desktop will soon be able to add biometric authentication to their logins.
The type of authentication you can use depends on your computer’s hardware. If it doesn’t have a fingerprint reader, for example, that’s not an option. In addition, your computer’s operating system must support biometric logins.
Therefore, when this update is implemented, Chrome will request an additional layer of biometric security before the system generates a custom password.
Google continues to focus on security. The company recently updated its online security with more AI, and earlier this year CEO Andrew Kamau shared five key privacy tips in a blog. It was no coincidence that Password Manager was one of them.
The password manager now has its own place in Chrome for desktop. The tool can be activated simply by clicking in the browser menu.
In iOS, in the coming months, the password manager will detect weak and recycled passwords and warn users about the password verification tool. Also this week there’s a larger and easier-to-click prompt for autofilling passwords and grouping multiple accounts. This is to make it easier to log into websites.
The exact date of the biometric upgrade is not yet known, Google could not say more than “soon”.
