Scientists from the Wiss Institute and the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences presented the FibraValve heart valve, a medical innovation. Its distinguishing feature is the ability to grow with the heart of its owner. This reduces the number of invasive operations on this organ.
A synthetic valve takes only 10 minutes to manufacture. Focused rotary jet spinning (FRJS) technology is used; in this technology, centrifugal force ejects long free-floating polymer fibers that are aligned by air jets.
Scientists build scaffolds from these and then apply cells to reconstruct the regenerated organ’s shape and functionality.
FibraValve works by allowing the patient’s cells to receive the regeneration cycle using their own living tissues. This technology can be helpful in solving the problem of rheumatic fever in children, as well as in the creation of other organs.
