Street Miami Beach, South Florida, USAwill have from next Monday Monument to Mexican President Benito Juarez (1806-1872) that will be on permanent display, the Consulate General of Mexico in Miami announced this Friday.

This is a bronze bust of Juarez, considered one of the great statesmen of Latin America. a gift from the Oaxaca artist Fernando Andriacci.

The bust will become part of the path of Latin American heroes, which are located in the famous Collins Park, located on 21st Street and Collins Avenue, in Miami Beach, where monuments to the Venezuelan politician are also located. Benito Juarez known as Honored Americawas a forerunner of the reform laws in Mexico in the 19th century, and his legacy led to, among other things, secular education.

As President of Mexico intermittently from 1858 to 1872 Juarez faced two important episodes in the history of the country: Reform War (1858–1861), French Intervention and Second Mexican Empire (1862–1867)

Miami Beach Commissioner (Council Member) Alex Fernandez, the organizer of the bust’s launch, said in a statement that the constitutional reforms Juarez enacted at the time laid the foundations of democratic life what now exists in Mexico.

Jonathan Chait, Mexican Consul in Miami, pointed out that “I am honored to have the presence of Mexico with the figure of Benito Juarez.a tireless fighter for the equal rights of all people without distinction of origin, race or skin color.

These “values,” he added, “were intertwined in the symbolic city of Miami Beach, where diversity, pluralism and freedom of expression are recognized“.

According to the Mexican consulate, a monument to Benito Juarez will be unveiled next Monday during a public ceremony. (EFE)
