Hanwha Ocean introduced its new ultra-large unmanned underwater vehicle called the Combat XLUUV. These underwater vehicles are remotely controlled from a carrier ship and will be used by the military.
Combat XLUUV is equipped with two torpedo tubes, has a length of 23 m and a displacement of 60 tons. The configuration of the torpedo compartments includes the use of heavy LIG Nex1 Tiger Shark guided missiles, conformal sonar throughout the fuselage and in the form of an X. .
A feature of Combat XLUUVs is the possibility of using them in the form of a swarm of underwater drones for enemy attacks. Unmanned submarines are powered by lithium-ion batteries and AIP (air independent propulsion) systems, two technologies used in the KSS III Batch 2 program.
Hanwha Ocean said it has received a “concept study and testing” contract from the South Korean Defense Procurement Program Administration (DAPA) and is expected to complete this phase of the study by the end of 2023. Source
