The toolkit provides an emulation environment that allows developers to run an existing, unmodified Windows game on a Mac before writing any code, and quickly evaluate how well the game can run on macOS. The beta version of the toolkit can be downloaded from the Apple Developer site.

Apple is also offering developers a new metal shader converter that simplifies the process of converting Windows game shaders and graphics code to run on Mac computers using Apple Silicon. Apple seems to be increasing its commitment to high-end games on the Mac. For example, macOS Sonoma has a new game mode for games that temporarily prioritizes CPU and GPU performance. According to Apple, Game Mode also reduces the audio lag of AirPods and doubles the Bluetooth sampling rate, reducing input lag with popular third-party game controllers. macOS Sonoma will be released later this year.
