Apple introduced the highly anticipated Vision Pro AR/VR headset at its event last week. This title offers a unique experience by combining digital content with the physical space surrounding users. Vision Pro controlled by eye, hand and voiceIt is considered one of Apple’s most ambitious products.

However, the name of the Vision Pro has been the subject of controversy due to another company’s trademark claim. Apple applied in China to use the name Vision Pro, but the application was rejected. The reason for the rejection is another technology giant, from Huawei have already registered this name.

What will Apple do? Did Huawei do this on purpose?

Huawei registered the trademark “Vision Pro” on May 16, 2019, long before Apple’s announcement. Trademark protection granted to Huawei, Covers a ten-year period from November 28, 2021 to November 27, 2031. This mark falls under International Classification 9, which covers a variety of goods and services, such as LCD TVs, head-mounted virtual reality devices, and radio equipment.

An important point here is that Huawei’s registration of the “Vision Pro” trademark is not specifically directed at Apple. Indeed, Huawei has an existing product line with this name. Huawei had previously launched two products under the “Vision” brand name: Vision Glass, the first smart viewing glasses, and the Huawei Vision smart display series.

As of now, Huawei has not made any official announcement regarding the development or release of mixed reality (MR) headset products. It is not yet clear whether Apple will continue to use the Vision Pro name. The company can appeal the decision in China or choose a different name for the Chinese market.
