Microsoft continues, so constantly adding features and improvements to Bingwhich we can consider their most successful launch in recent years and which has returned Redmond to the image of a truly innovative company (although I think in this respect my opinion was clearly expressed when I talked about their hardware proposals), able to stand up and take advantage of Google , which seemed completely untouchable until the arrival of the new Bing.
It is true that now Microsoft facing a more difficult situation than a few months ago, because the scope of Bard, although it has not reached the European Union, is already much wider than a few weeks ago, when access was controlled by a waiting list, and moreover it was only available in the United States and the United Kingdom. Now virtually all over the world (except the EU and a few other countries), Microsoft’s chatbot has to face Google, which has been highly anticipated since its announcement at the beginning of the year.
With only a few hours left until the end of the week, we understand that the final arrival of Bing to Chrome, Safari and other browsers has been delayed due to the expected plans. This move is important because it will have consequences users will no longer need to use Microsoft Edge to access the chatbot, something that may limit the use of Bing when many users may now opt for Bard in Chrome. So we can think that even so, its launch is still very, very close.
So while this change happens, Microsoft continues to work on new features for its chatbot. The last one, as we can read on the official blog of the search engine, is the one Bing has already started rolling out the voice chat feature on the desktop, though it’s only available in English, Japanese, French, German, and Mandarin at this early stage.. Something that, I must admit, surprises me a lot, given that the mobile version of the app already supports many more languages, including Spanish. However, the arrival of more languages is said to be “on the way”, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long.
So, by pressing the microphone icon, it is now possible to formulate our questions on Bing by voice, and in these cases the chatbot will generate the appropriate answers in text, but also answers them by voice, using classic TTS (Text To Speech) technology, a proven voice synthesis system. The move is undoubtedly crucial to Microsoft’s plans to bring Bing, like Copilot, to Windows 11, and it’s hard to imagine a personal assistant that doesn’t support voice communication.
