At least ten people were killed and 25 injured after the bus they were traveling in overturned after attending a wedding in New South Wales, Australia.
The emergency services said that the victims with different prognosis of severity were taken by helicopters and ambulances to hospitals for medical care. The rest of the passengers, 18 in all, were not injured.
Acting NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Tracey Chapman indicated that the death toll could rise and that it was possible that people stuck in the car.
The bus driver, a 58-year-old man who was taken to the hospital under police supervision, is in custody and charges will be filed against him, Chapman explained at a news conference. Authorities believe the bus appears to have been the only vehicle involved in the accident.
NSW Police said emergency services have been at the scene since midnight (local time) and that a specialized forensic police and accident investigation team are inspecting the scene.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured. “All of us Australians who have woken up to the tragic news from Hunter offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in this horrific bus tragedy,” he said.

Sesnok Mayor Jay Suwaal stated that the accident was “absolutely terrible” news, explaining that “it looks like it was a booked wedding bus that arrived from the wedding the same day.” He also expressed condolences to the victims and their families:
“We are still waiting for details to become known as the investigation progresses. We do not know the circumstances of the accident at this time,” Suwaal told ABC News on Monday. (Europe Press).
