Apple is ready to work on a more affordable version of Vision Pro, mixed reality (MR) which the company announced in early June this year.

According to journalist Mark Gurman, bloombergcompany contacted a few months ago with companies that provide less expensive components for the device. he would “unprofessional” version headsets to popularize the technology and increase sales in this segment. The idea is to run the model by the end of 2025working on it together with the second generation Vision Pro.

Vision Pro costs $3,500 in the US and will be released in the first months of 2024. Pricing in Brazil has not yet been revealed and there is no information if the model will be released here, but in direct currency conversion the headset will already be released for a little over 17 thousand dollars.

Mixed reality cost

In Vision Pro Apple currently spends an amount “near or equal” to the price charged to the consumer during the production of each unit. That is, even it does not expect to make a big profit from this first version, which is more intended to introduce the technology to the public and start the process of developing mixed reality applications, services and experiences at Apple.

The reason is still very high cost especially the three components: To two miniature microLED screens with 4K resolution, set of cameras and sensors who reads the environment and two processors from the Apple Silicon family – one of them works for the entire system, and the other chip simply “reads” and sends all the signals collected by the headset to the central processor.

As Gurman points out, trim materials can also be changed in a simpler way, including removing premium fabrics from the handle. The audio system could be replaced by the obligatory use of headphones, perhaps AirPods, and the cameras could be made less powerful without losing much of the information collected.
