Japanese company N-Ark has announced plans to build an ambitious, self-sufficient floating city to house residents, medical facilities, shopping malls and more. Dogen City will be designed to accommodate climate change-induced sea levels and provide electricity, food and water for up to 40,000 people.
Dogen City will have a radius of 4 km and will welcome approximately 10,000 permanent residents and up to 30,000 visiting tourists. Its round shape will be designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and even tsunamis.
The project will be divided into three separate areas:
The housing ring containing the main living area,
An underwater data center that will be naturally cooled by the sea and will include city administration centers and medical research centers.
Architecture floating inside an artificial bay formed by a ring-shaped structure.
There will be a lot of greenery, food industries, schools, sports fields, hospitals, parks, stadium, hotels and offices on the island. N-Ark predicts that the city of Dogen will contain some sort of launch and landing pad for air transport.
Healthcare is a focus, and residents will have access to telemedicine consultations and high-tech blood tests, as well as robotic surgery and research to detect potential problems.
N-Ark estimates that the island will consume around 2 million liters of water per year, as well as 3,288 tons of garbage disposal per year. Approximately 7,000 tons of food will be produced and 22,265,000 kW of electricity will be produced.
Meeting all these needs will certainly be a huge task, and while the illustrations provided show an abundance of solar panels and the aforementioned food production facilities, details on how the floating city will do this are poor at this stage. Source
