A former executive of South Korean Samsung Electronics was accused on Monday of stealing the technology the company uses to make chips in China. As reported by Ukrinform,

The former head of the Korean tech giant is also accused of posing a threat to South Korea’s national economic security, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors said he was charged with illegally obtaining Samsung data to set up a rival facility in China, just 1.5km from the Korean chip company’s facility.
He added that by his estimates, the data theft cost Samsung at least $233 million.
A former employee of a Korean company denies the accusation. Samsung Electronics is not commenting on the situation.
The defendant worked for South Korean chip manufacturers for 28 years.
Six more people, including an employee of the inspection company accused of revealing the architectural plan of the Samsung semiconductor enterprise, were sued by the prosecutor’s office for involvement in theft.
An attempt to build a new facility using stolen data in 2018-2019 failed due to funding issues.
As reported by Ukrinform, South Korean police have detained 77 people in commercial espionage-related cases since February.
