Now also edit WhatsApp messages in the Windows app

Today, only beta testers can use the feature. A public rollout should not be long in coming.

Editing messages on WhatsApp has been available from the mobile app for a while, but it’s not yet available on Windows and macOS. Mac owners have to be patient, Windows PCs can already get started with the function.

According to WABetaInfo, beta testers of the WhatsApp desktop software for Windows can start using the editing function today. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously held this position via Instagram promised to the world in a short film.

It is important to emphasize that this is the desktop version of WhatsApp. If you use the web version, you still have to be patient. Meta will not provide an exact timetable when the editing function is introduced there.

WhatsApp gives you 15 minutes to fix an error on the desktop version, just like the mobile app. You can also just edit the message you typed in the desktop client. You can only edit a message that you sent from the mobile app from the same app.

Don’t see the feature yet? WhatsApp says the feature will be systematically rolled out to beta testers in the coming days. If all goes well, the public launch of the feature shouldn’t be far off.

Get started with the new app

Registering for the beta version of WhatsApp on Windows is easy. Click here and confirm in the top right that you want to install the app. The Microsoft Store will then open in Windows 11 or Windows 10 and you can complete the installation. For us, the beta feature for editing posts worked right away:

  • Click the arrow next to your typed message (next to the smiley face) when you hover over the text.
  • Choose from the list Produce.
  • Now you can see the original message and edit your text below.
  • Confirm with the tick at the bottom right.
  • In addition to the time it was sent, you will now see that the message has been processed (the recipient can see this too)

WhatsApp regularly adds new features to its chat platform. For example, previously introduced channels that are a bit more like Facebook, and WhatsApp has a secret vault for storing private messages. Read here how you can use WhatsApp on two different smartphones at the same time.
