Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. It plans to launch an all-solid-state battery-powered electric car as early as 2027.

Unlike lithium-ion batteries currently used to power electric vehicles, all-solid-state batteries use solid electrolytes that provide increased energy density.
Toyota says the new battery, which can withstand temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius and is more resistant to damage, will more than double the range of the bZ4X EV. At the same time, the charging time is reduced to about 10 minutes, which is about a third of the time required for a full charge using current technology.
Toyota aims to reach a charging range of 1,000 kilometers, according to Takero Kato, head of the company’s division responsible for the development of advanced electric vehicles.
Toyota said it would launch hybrid vehicles using all-solid-state batteries in the early 2020s, but amid the growing popularity of electric vehicles, the company has decided to prioritize the development of next-generation battery-powered vehicles.
