Paul McCartney is without a doubt one of the most acclaimed artists of all time. Above all, for being part of The Beatles, of course, because the four from Liverpool marked the history of music before and after, the phenomenon of fans, the spread of Eastern cultures to the West, etc. It is impossible to talk about the history of contemporary music without devoting at least a whole chapter to McCartney, Lennon, Harrison and Starr.

From the moment the group split up, rumors and requests for a new meeting of the same began to circulate. Of course, that ceased to be possible on that fateful Monday, December 8, 1980, when Lennon, returning home to the iconic Dakota building in New York, was shot by Mark David Chapman. At some point it was said that Paul McCartney was in talks with Julian Lennon to take on the role of his father at the meeting, but it never materialized and it’s not really clear where the word came from.

After leaving The Beatles, Paul McCartney maintained a successful musical career, whether it was with the ever-changing Wings, in collaboration with other artists or solo, the artist knew how to chart his own career far from the shadow of his previous band, although it is conceivable and understandably, the rest of being a part of something as legendary as the Beatles always weighed and still does in their affliction. And of course, that on some occasion they dreamed of an already impossible reunion.

Or is it no longer impossible? Indeed, it seems that artificial intelligence will make possible something that seemed impossible. As we can read in The Guardian, Paul McCartney used AI, starting with a “demo” (test record, usually low quality) grecorded by John Lennon, rebuilding his voice to record and publish a new song by The Beatles.

Over the past few months we have seen several cases where artificial intelligence has been used to imitate the voice of artists contemporary renditions of other songs, something that has created a somewhat uneven response among artists. However, this is the first time we’ve seen the use of AI come from a directly involved party, in this case Paul McCartney, to generate new content that is integrated into her official catalog.

The song is speculated to be Now and Then, a demo recorded by Lennon on a radio tape, and which was saved on a tape the artist intended to send to McCartney, and has been in his possession ever since. And so we come to the publication of The Beatles: Get Back, a documentary shot by Peter Jackson, released in 2021. Artificial intelligence was used to separate the band’s voices from the sound of the instruments. this inspired McCartney to recover now and then to record The Beatles’ last song in 2023 this way and with the help of AI.
