In the United States, a bill by Senators Richard Blumenthal and Josh Hawley called AI Section 230 No Immunity Actseeks to prevent companies such as OpenAI and Google from using Section 230 protections if artificial intelligence is being used to harm someone.
Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act provides immunity if third parties use the company’s products to harm others. Thus, if someone uses OpenAI’s GPT chat to harm another person, OpenAI will be protected from the consequences by using section 230 of this law as a defense. Section 230 of the AI Immunity Act wants to remove such a protection feature.
