The Steam client is refreshed with improvements in appearance and usability

After reviving the Big Picture over a year ago, coinciding with the launch of Steam Deck, it’s now the turn of common PC client interfacewhich thus unifies its style line, but also the codebase between it, Big Picture and Steam Deck, which is essentially the same but slightly adapted to your needs.

According to Valve, they have rebuilt the steam client to a new one framework, which will facilitate the maintenance of the application and speed up its development, while unifying it between all its versions. Incidentally, this change also affects the new mobile application that was launched at the end of last year to offer a renewed experience to all its users.

What now comes to users of the default interface of Steam for PC pay attention to change the background, but also the form, and that they have given the client a “fresh coat” that includes Improvements to the appearance and usability of dialogs, menus, fonts and colorswhich you should notice once you update the app (if you haven’t already, you can).

This new version of Steam also improves notifications, which are now more complete and useful than before, as well as being better organized and less annoying. What hasn’t changed is the “gaming overlay” or Steam’s floating pods in general, which behave as usual despite the redesign.

But in addition to improvements, there are new features: the first and most noticeable is notes featurewhich will allow you to take notes about the game (you know, all those stories that you don’t forget, whether it’s to comment on them later or because of the game itself) and with sync support so you don’t lose them when you change devices so you can continue the game.

Another novelty is the overlay of information windows during gameplay, the ability to set the level of coverage so that it is not too annoying and “without including headers or other superfluous parts of the user interface”. “And much more”…, they say from Valve in the official information that you can read above, so we recommend you take a look (it’s in Spanish), although you will discover most of the new details as you go.

By the way, there is one more thing, if only for Linux and Mac: It is now possible to “enable hardware acceleration in the Mac and Linux versions of Steam, bringing them closer to the Windows version. You should now notice a more responsive user interface and a more concise experience in animations and page navigation,” they explain. Technical details of this update in the release notes.
