Microsoft starts selling spare parts for Surface devices

Last month, Logitech partnered with iFixit to make device repairs easier and more reliable. Now, Redmond-based Microsoft has partnered with iFixit to sell the replacement parts in its own store. This makes it easy for DIY enthusiasts to fix Surface devices themselves. Read on for more details below.

Microsoft now sells replacement Surface parts in its store

Tech-savvy customers whose Surface devices have expired can repair themselves. Replacement components are available from the Microsoft Store. These include stand parts, fingerprint sensors, replacement display units, batteries, SSD covers, WiFi modules and more.

Tim McGuiggan, vice president of device support and product development at Microsoft, says that when customers purchase a replacement component, they will receive the part and associated components, such as screws. However, the tools needed to repair Surface devices are sold separately by iFixit.

Microsoft Surface replacement parts will initially be available to customers in the United States, Canada, and France through the company’s official store. Distribution in other markets will be handled by certified Microsoft resellers. The company says it will update when it plans to expand the availability of these parts to other markets in the future.

The list of devices that can replace components includes the Surface Pro 7, Pro 8, Pro 9, Surface Laptop (Gen 3, 4, and 5), Surface Laptop Go 2, Surface Laptop Studio, and Surface Studio 2+ all-in-one PC computer. Spare part prices depend on the device.
