In recent years, smartphone manufacturers have focused, especially with their top-end offerings, on resistance to the most common eventualities that their devices have to deal with. It wasn’t that long ago (or maybe it was, but given the age I’d rather not) that a number of these unfortunately common events could permanently end the life of a device. Today, however, it must be recognized that they have improved a lot.
One of the most common accidents faced by smartphones is suddenly ends up submerged in water or any other liquid. If you have been using a mobile phone for years, definitely turning it off, removing the battery while running (for models in which it is/was possible) and immersing it in a story with rice for at least 24 hours will be the procedure for you.familiarization. In my case, I don’t have to look far because my iPhone 4 has had to go through the mentioned emergency operation several times. And I must say that in both cases the treatment was successful.
Today, that has changed… or so the manufacturers tell us from the top of the row. In theory, these smartphones are able to submerge and continue to function as if nothing happened. And this is of course sensational because it allows its use in many circumstances and contexts in which it was previously something really not recommended. Are they really as durable as they promise? Youtuber TechDroider decided to check it out for himself, with a test that can undoubtedly be described as extreme.
So to check the response of the top of the range to a good dip, she chose Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, iPhone 14 Pro Max and Xiaomi 13 Ultra, three devices with prices well above the psychological threshold of 1,000 euros, and so it can break our hearts if they fall into the water and remain disabled forever. Therefore, and to make the test more challenging, TechDroider thought that liquid water might not be enough. So he ran a few basic functional tests on them and then got to work.
As you can see in the video, he presented three tops of the line in a plastic box, in which later added sparkling water to cover all three smartphones. And then, they covered the box and put it in the freezer, where they spent six hours, of which a large part of sparkling water has frozen. After six hours, he took the box out of the freezer, removed the stoppers from the box, and melted the ice with warm water. Yes, even more water, as I told you, the test is really extreme.
And what happened after that? How did these three phones perform in the test? If you’ve already seen the video, you already know that. Otherwise, I’ll tell you, device by device:
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: The smartphone from Samsung can be considered the winner of this test, in which, however, its competitors also scored very highly. After thawing, its operation was completely similar to what it showed before the test. But it also showed a warning message that the USB-C port is damp/wet and therefore it is not recommended to connect anything to it until it dries.
iPhone 14 Pro Max: In the previous edition of this test, the iPhone 13 had a problem with the speakers, but this time it seems that it has been fixed. So after returning from Antarctica, Apple’s top of the range continued to function normally. Of course, despite the humidity, it didn’t show the same signs as the Galaxy S23.
Xiaomi 13 Ultra: closing the trio of aces, Xiaomi 13 Ultra stood up to the other two tops of the range in the test and after experience kept the correct operation on the rocks. The only flaw, as with the iPhone, is that it didn’t warn about moisture in the USB port.
In summary, we can confirm that indeed The resistance of the top of the line to this type of incident has developed in a spectacular way. Which of course does not mean that MuyComputer invites you to inspect your smartphone if it is…
