The world’s first space facility begins operation
A new satellite from Varda Space Industries began its work in space on June 13. It is the world’s first space drug factory that can also be used for hypersonic research.

As reported by Ukrinform, New Atlas reported this.

According to representatives of Varda Space Industries, this type of production is very beneficial for growing protein crystals. Since gravity does not affect the properties of chemical compounds in space, drug production in extraterrestrial conditions could revolutionize this industry.

This opportunity is particularly important to pharmaceutical manufacturers, who can use a zero-gravity space facility to analyze biological proteins and crystallize them to form drugs.

Also, such a space factory could be used to manufacture drugs in crystal form with extreme precision. And this kind of production will cost much less than on Earth. Thanks to the cost of space launches becoming increasingly cheaper, such production could be successful.

So far, Varda Space Industries has been the first company to send such a production and laboratory satellite into space. It will fly in orbit for a little over a month at an altitude of about 1,000 km. The power plant was launched into orbit with a Falcon 9 rocket on June 12. After the mission is complete, the device will return to Earth.

The Varda company believes that their new development can be used to conduct various research in the field of hypersound.

If all goes according to plan, Varda Space Industries plans to launch a second such vehicle into space later this year. The American company has plans to create reusable production space modules and even has plans to create a production space station in Earth orbit.

As reported by Ukrinform, construction of a new, third launch complex has begun in the city of Wenchang, in southern China’s Hainan province, where the country’s first spaceport for commercial space launches has been built.
