President Joe Biden on Thursday called on Congress to pass legislation offering a path to U.S. citizenship for young people smuggled into the country as children, using movie night at the White House to highlight its support for Hispanics.

President and First Lady Jill Biden hosted a screening of the movie Hot Flamin, directed by actress Eva Longoria, on the South Lawn of the White House for a crowd that included the film’s cast, Latino leaders and the Dreamers. who were not born in the United States but came to the country as children.

“We have to give dreamers a path to citizenship,” Biden said. “I will continue to ask Congress to pass this bill that does just that.”

There was not enough support in Congress to advance immigration reform.

The screening of the film is the second social event on the South Lawn hosted by the White House this week to highlight its support for minority communities.

On Tuesday, Biden hosted an open-air concert in honor of the June 10 celebration, during which condemned racism as “too powerful force” in the country.

Black and Hispanic voters are important voters for Biden, who is running for re-election in 2024.
