It’s been over a year since Google announced Immersive View for Google Maps. The said announcement took place at Google I/O 2022, and shortly after, in July, the company informed about the imminent deployment of this feature. However, despite this, we had to wait until the beginning of this year for the feature to be effectively rolled out, as we told you last March. And even at that time, there were only a few users who had access to this long-awaited feature.
Much closer in time, during the last Google I/O 2023 conference, Google showed us the development of Immersive Viewwhich will allow us to check the routes generated by Google Maps with this format, a very attractive proposal visually, because thanks to the gigantic history of the images of the places, but also information about traffic, weather, etc., it reproduces for us in realistic 3D with more environmental elements the route we want to take.
Google has announced that this development of Immersive View will soon come to Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Paris, Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose, Tokyo and Venice, so no It seems it is likely that we will be able to enjoy this new mode of Google Maps in a Spanish city at least until 2024. Now What about the deployment of immersive views that were announced to us over a year ago?
The good news is that it has finally arrived in Spain. Currently available in the Google Maps apps for iOS and Android, Barcelona, Córdoba and Madrid already have Immersive View in certain locations. We don’t know if this mode will make it to the web version of Google Maps, but the latest version of the application for both operating systems already offers access to this advanced visual mode.
You’ll see, yes, I hinted at it It is available for certain locations, but not for all three Spanish citiesAt the moment, this privilege corresponds exclusively to the four cities already mentioned at Google I/O 2023, Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence and Venice. As we can read on the official blog, more than 500 recommended locations from places around the world have been added.
The distribution of such places, however is progressive. For example, it was announced that this mode of Google Maps will allow us to enjoy a unique view of the Mosque of Córdoba, although it is not yet available. However, we can visit Plaza de España and Palacio de Cristal in Madrid or Plaça de Catalunya and La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
So to enjoy Immersive View in Google Maps, you’ll just have to search for your chosen location in the Android or iOS app and in the tab that appears above it, you’ll see a rotating 3D image appear with the text “Immersive View” superimposed in the upper left corner. Just click on it and this way you will see this 3D model. In addition, if you click on “Time and Time”, you can also adjust these parameters.
