Starfield is one of the most anticipated novelties of this year. What we were able to see at the Xbox Showcase 2023 and the subsequent Starfield Direct was very promising indeed, and the years of seeing, reading and hearing about this great release from Bethesda has once again caused anticipation to rise. , perhaps more than they should, puts us in a difficult situation, really difficult.
Bethesda has already had a few failed launches.. It is true that these titles have improved significantly over time and today offer a fairly positive gaming experience (albeit to taste, colors, of course). The problem is that 2023 is probably the year of the most shameful releases. We’re not even halfway through the year yet and it’s time to stop and remember all the games that disappointed us because they came out in a state of progress that would put even a 6-year-old learning to code with colored blocks to shame.
The Last of Us, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Lord of the Rings: Gollum, To mention just a few, they have exhausted the patience of users (or at least part of it, since there are still those who defend that they spent 70 euros on an alpha version) and as a result planned major releases such as Starfield will be in the spotlight from the first seconds, even more so considering what I said at the beginning, the history of Bethesda.
However, the study seems to make it clear that we shouldn’t worry about it. So as we can read in the comics, Bethesda claims that the amount of bugs in Starfield to date is much lower than previous development at this stage of the project., a commitment that, of course, Microsoft makes as its own, for which the study belongs to it. Here’s what Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty had to say:
«We have a lot of people playing Starfield working with Todd and the team. I can see the bug count and by the numbers alone, if it shipped today, Starfield would already have the fewest bugs of any Bethesda game ever shipped. Which is fine, but then again, the experience of the first day will always be different. […] The team has matured. They have Fallout, Skyrim and Elder Scrolls below them. When the acquisition closed, the game had a significantly earlier release date than the one we first set for Starfield. We sat down with Todd and the team and explained that we wanted to give them time. »
It’s true, indeed Starfield was significantly delayed from its originally planned release date, but given what exactly we’re talking about, any delay is more than welcome if it means the game gets to market with the necessary state of maturity. With Starfield, and as I said before, there are many expectations, let’s remember that it was originally announced six years ago and that during this time Bethesda has been giving us long teeth with many advances.
This type of statement is not really a guarantee because recall that CD Projekt Red released something similar months before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077and then what happened happened. However, acknowledging past mistakes like this from Bethesda, along with a claim like Booty’s, and having it backed up by Phil Spencer himself, gives us reason for reasonable optimism.
