Canonical introduces Sunbeam, a system that makes it easier to set up OpenStack in smaller environments.

Sunbeam from Canonical (the company behind Ubuntu Linux) is a new system designed to make installing OpenStack easier. Especially in smaller environments.

need for simplification

It’s not always easy to set up OpenStack yourself. Because of this, many companies work with an outside party or consultant to resolve the issue. In small environments, installation is often nearly impossible.

Practical

Especially the latter should change with Sunbeam. The system uses a Kubernetes architecture, software that is also increasingly being used to work with OpenStack.

Even developers and IT teams with no OpenStack experience should have no trouble setting up the platform. To this end, Canonical combines the new Sunbeam with MicroStack, its hardware configuration, to deploy OpenStack at small scale.

Availability

Sunbeam is launched with the latest version of OpenStack (2023.1 Antelope) and will soon receive support for OpenStack Charm.

While Sunbeam is open source, Canonical offers commercial support to business users through their Ubuntu Pro+ Support subscription.

Canonical recently launched real-time Ubuntu for lower latency, a few months after the release of Ubuntu 22.10.
