The option is not enabled by default, but you can change it in the privacy settings for those who regularly suffer from spam callers.

The latest feature in WhatsApp allows you to automatically mute unknown callers. At the same time, the chat client also launches a privacy check to make sure you’re (a little) informed about the various options available to protect your privacy.

If you turn on the feature that ignores unknown callers, both the audible and visual notifications will be muted. You’ll still appear with the note in your recent calls list Silence unknown callers.

You can customize the option by following the steps below:

  • Tap on the three dots in the top left
  • Choose institutions and then privacy
  • Scroll down until you reach Call to action comes out
  • Tap on it and switch Silence unknown callers In

Also, take a moment to go through the other options in the privacy menu. At the top there is now a notification to start a data protection check. This will walk you through many options, step-by-step, so you can clearly see what data you are giving away. If necessary, you can also make changes during the test.

The update will be gradually rolled out to all users over the coming days. Don’t see the feature yet? Then you may need to update WhatsApp via Google Play Store or Android App Store.

Earlier this month WhatsApp reported that you can now use multiple accounts on one smartphone and that it is working on some business options. You can now also edit your messages shortly after sending them within the mobile app or via the Windows desktop application.
