Apple has announced the expansion of its Self-Service Repair program, which allows customers to repair their Apple devices themselves. Starting June 21, the program will cover a range of the latest products, including the iPhone 14 series and the MacBook with the M2 chip.
Apple’s Self-Repair program will now provide customers with comprehensive resources that give them the tools they need to repair. Manuals, genuine Apple parts and special tools will be available to repair all iPhone 14 models, as well as 13-inch M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.
A significant improvement in Apple Self-Service Repair is the removal of the “System Configuration” verification step, which was previously required after a repair. The move included phone calls to Apple’s repair support and was criticized for being onerous.
With the new changes, customers will no longer need to contact support for verification. Instead, Apple will run a System Configuration tool to check if the repair was done correctly.
Apple is actively working to expand access to repairs for its customers. In addition to the new products covered by its Self-Service Repair program, Apple is expanding the coverage to include individual components of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, such as the True Depth camera and top speaker. Desktop Macs powered by the M1 chip will also be able to self-repair.
To streamline the repair process, Apple has opened a self-service store. This online platform allows customers to easily purchase genuine Apple parts, from protective screws to new screens needed for repairs.
Initially offered in the United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, Apple’s Self-Repair program aims to empower customers and reduce dependency on authorized service centers. Source
