Okta introduces Device Access as a new component of its Workforce Identity Cloud.
The American IDaaS company Okta launches Device Access. This is a new solution for companies with employees who no longer (always) work in the office and are part of the Workforce Identity Cloud service.
According to the mandatory versions, working in the home office or on the go has gotten stuck in many companies. This new service is a next step for Okta in its service to help organizations manage access and security for X devices that are no longer within their own walls.
Okta Device Access is designed to discover devices for access. In doing so, the company wants to limit the risk of employees who do not work in the office violating safety regulations.
The new service includes MFA over the desktop for Mac iOS and Windows to create a zero-trust “wall” around locally cached data, apps, and offline services on the desktop.
There is also a desktop password sync for macOS. It was developed by Okta together with Jamf and is based on Apple’s Platform Single Sign-On Extension. According to Okta, this system provides Okta credentials (not unimportant, based on our own research over the past year). In addition, it instantly enrolls users in Verify and FastPass access systems.
Some other notable features of Device Access:
The various functions of the new system will not all be released at the same time.
Early access to desktop MFA for Windows and desktop password sync for macOS is expected in Q3 of this year and will be generally available in Q4.
Desktop MFA for macOS will be available in Early Access in the fourth quarter of this year and will be generally available in the first quarter of 2024.
After a difficult 2022, it’s no doubt nice for Okta to share news like this with the world rather than news of hacks and cyberthefts.
