In any case, there is no shortage of ports on the latest network switches from D-Link. Both new models in the series, which bear the evocative names DMS-3130-30PS and DMS-3130-30TS, have two 10GBASE-T ports and four 10G/25G SFP28 ports. The press release also mentions sixteen 2.5G PoE+ and eight 5G PoE++ ports on the DMS-3130-30PS.
The versatility of connections means that almost any device can be powered and connected via a single cable, including power-hungry devices such as video conferencing systems. In addition, the switches offer built-in 6kV surge protection on all PoE and non-PoE Ethernet access ports. External devices for overvoltage protection are therefore no longer required.
The manufacturer promises that the DMS-3130-30PS and the DMS-3130-30TS guarantee maximum uptime without stating an explicit percentage. One of the most important characteristics to fulfilling this promise is Ethernet ring protection switching (ERPS for short), which minimizes the recovery time to less than 50 ms. Dynamic 802.1AX link aggregation and Layer 3 features like static routing should provide a more secure, efficient, and scalable network.
In addition, up to nine switches can also be combined in a physical or virtual stack, simplifying switch management. This gives you a total of more than two hundred gigabit ports under a common IP address.
The DMS-3130-30PS will be available from the end of July. The DMS-3130-30TS is expected later in the third quarter.
