Engineers within the framework of the TALOS project have developed a compact laser technology for hitting air targets. According to the developers, the new technology works with minimal secondary damage and is safe for the human eye.

The Tactical Advanced Laser Optics System (TALOS), a research project aimed at creating a compact laser weapon.

Scientists led by the European Commission for Defense Research (PADR) have developed a small laser installation that can quickly and accurately neutralize a moving target such as a UAV or rocket-propelled artillery shell while minimizing collateral damage.

They created two demonstration prototypes: a powerful amplifier working with eye-damaging waves (2 μm) and a diffuser, which allows you to effectively focus a laser beam on a target.

“The results of the project will make a significant contribution to strengthening the defense capabilities of EU member states in the field of critical laser technologies,” EDA said.
